St George's Day



Come and celebrate St George's Day at St Mary's Church, Leckhampstead Saturday, April 21st & Sunday, April 22nd

WHAT'S ON:
Variety Concert - Saturday at 7.30pm
An evening of music, song and supper, featuring Rob Martin at the piano and the Leckhampstead Handbell Ringers. There will also be a fun quiz and everyone can join in a singalong of traditional English songs (song sheets provided). A buffet supper and paying bar will complete a good night out!

Church Service - Sunday at 10.30am

 An informal service at St Mary’s celebrating St George and all things English. Enjoy songs, readings and poems. You can also join in the fun of acting the story of St George and his heroic battle with the fire-breathing dragon that was terrifying the population.
The service will last around half an hour, with coffee and special biscuits afterwards. Everyone is very welcome.

An Eventful Afternoon - Sunday 2pm-5pm

Traditional games for all ages including rubber ducks, Aunt Sally, skittles, roll-a-penny and coconut shy. The Great Horwood Silver Band will play throughout the afternoon. There’s a chance to learn about the history and special features of the church with guided tours. The bellringers will be ringing, explaining about the bells and their history and how you could learn to ring. There’s a Tombola and, of course, tea and cakes. Entry is free, but there will be a small charge for some of the activities and £2.50 for the teas.

St George & the Dragon art competition (Entries close on Saturday) STRICTLY FOR CHILDREN
Get creative in any medium to picture the saint and his fiery foe. All entries will be on display over the weekend and visitors invited to vote for their favourite. There are two age groups – 10 years and under and 11-16 years. Artwork needs to be no bigger than A3 – but please, no 3D constructions – and taken to the church between 10.30am and 11am on Saturday April 21st. Please do not sign the front of your work. Prizegiving will be in the church at 4pm on Sunday April 22nd.

Profits from the weekend will go towards the bells’ restoration fund
